Fundamentals of Dance

The basic fundamentals of dance are important for starters because this helps in basic steps and posture when it comes to folk dance. Arms and feet movement is important with these fundamental movements. There are 5 basic fundamental movements involving the arms and legs.

The movements of the arms and feet are done at the same time...

1st Position
Arms
Raise arms in shoulder level to form a circle in front of chest.


Feet
Bring heels together with toes apart


2nd Position
Arms
Open arms side-wards raised below shoulder level with a graceful curve.


Feet
Bring feet apart side wards


3rd Position
Arms
Raise one arm over head while other remains the same position.


Feet
Bring heel of one foot to the side of the other foot to touch the instep of the other foot.


4th Position
Arms
One arm raised in front of chest with shoulder level forming a half circle while the other stays in the over head.

Feet
Place the moved foot in the 3rd position forward.


5th Position
Arms
Both arms raised overhead forming a circle.


Feet
Bring forward foot's heel to the other foot's tip of the toes.
